Obviously preventable if every NAU student carried a gun. But, in the meantime, we have this as an example of the nonresponse from our politicians who reflect the nonresponse of Americans to hundreds of thousands of people killed by guns.
Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, wrote in a post on Twitter: "All Arizonans have the Flagstaff community in their hearts today."
The first thing wrong with that is that mourning the dead doesn't do diddly. At least not unless you are a famous victim and maybe not even then.
The second thing is that Republicans don't have a heart. If they did, they would recruit the gumption to do what is necessary to prevent more shootings and, more generally, reduce gun violence. (And selling more guns to the populace and arming ever and ever younger people in their schools is not the answer.) Instead our politicians sell their souls to the NRA.
This one made the NYTimes.
