The first instinct, in the face of so many pressing national problems, is to shudder and cringe at the idea of devoting one's votes and energies to a single issue. My hunch (and it needs some empirical support) is that attitudes toward gun "rights" are comorbid with other disorders of political and social thought. If true, then kicking a scoundrel out of office for one reason will buy us political benefits that outweigh costs on other issues. In my view we have nothing to lose. What we have to gain is avoidance of dozens of school shootings and prevention of a few hundred thousand preventable deaths.
