Bush 1 and Reagan on immigration in 1980

How far the GOP has fallen is illustrated in these moving 1980 debate presentations. George H. W. Bush struggles to find the words to convey his passion about immigration but does make the case for decriminalizing kids of workers ("illegal immigrants"). Reagan follows up with his own pitch for better relations with Mexico to better handle immigration. Building a fence was not on their common agenda.

Neither of these former presidents would pass the GOTeaP primary today.
