Speaker Paul Ryan (finally) jumps for Trump

Alternative headline: Ryan submits to being jumped by Trump

More Alternative headlines: Republicans put party before country. Ryan surrenders GOP. Trump takeover of GOP complete.

After lots of equivocating, Ryan says he will vote for Trump because Trump will advance Ryan's conservative agenda. Goes to show ya: even a Speaker of the House can be conned. (On the other hand, we note that Paul "AynRandian" Ryan has never seemed to be the brightest bulb.) The story is at the NY Times.

Ryan explains.

Through these conversations, I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives,” Mr. Ryan wrote. “That’s why I’ll be voting for him this fall.”

“It’s no secret that he and I have our differences,” he continued. “I won’t pretend otherwise. And when I feel the need to, I’ll continue to speak my mind. But the reality is, on the issues that make up our agenda, we have more common ground than disagreement.”

Trump is in favor of cutting Social Security "from a moral standpoint." Perhaps in the coming months Ryan will explain how such ideas "improve people's lives." Perhaps he will elaborate on which of Trump's wretched ad-hoc-isms constitute "common ground" and which constitute "our differences."

But that may be a stretch.
