The CEO of Fox News is being sued for sexual harassment. The suit prompted 21st Century Fox to conduct a review that will most likely lead to Ailes departure as Fox's chair, reports the NY Times.
Mr. Ailes’s exit would be a humbling and startlingly swift fall from power for a man who started Fox News from scratch 20 years ago and built it into a top-rated cable news program and a critical profit center for 21st Century Fox. Along the way, Mr. Ailes, a former Republican operative, established Fox News as the leading media platform for conservative politics. He also minted prime-time stars like Bill O’Reilly, Megyn Kelly and Greta Van Susteren.
The network Ailes created has done more damage to America than any other force. It has filled the minds of many Americans with nonsense ranging from biased perspectives to outright misinformation. Ailes, wittingly or not, thus shares responsibility for the rise of Trumpism. With respect to consequences, he deserves more than he will likely get and should have received it sooner.
