Trump followers calling for violence against Hillary Clinton

Steve Benen reports.

The Boston Globe reports today:

A New Hampshire state representative who advises Donald Trump on veterans’ issues called Tuesday for Hillary Clinton to be “put in the firing line and shot for treason” for her handling of the Benghazi terror attack.

Appearing on WRKO radio from the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, state Representative Al Baldasaro, a Londonderry Republican, called the presumptive Democratic nominee “a piece of garbage.”

Note, Baldasaro’s comments, which are obviously indefensible, are built entirely around conspiracy theories surrounding Benghazi – all of which congressional Republicans have already debunked.

There's more.

A Republican delegate from West Virginia called for execution.

Delegate Michael Folk, R-Berkeley, tweeted to Clinton late Friday afternoon that she should be “should be tried for treason, murder, and crimes against the US Constitution... then hung on the Mall in Washington, DC.”

In New Jersey, a Republican county commissioner called for Clinton to be hanged.

Licking County Commissioner Duane Flowers expressed his dislike for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in explicit terms during Tuesday's public meeting of the board of commissioners. ... "Hillary, she should be hanging from a tree," Flowers said during the meeting.

And those calls on top of the mob of Republican delegates calling for Clinton's imprisonment and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's rants inciting the mob to pronounce Clinton guilty of everything (all without evidence, natch).

This kind of thing does not end well. Let's be clear. All this talk provides the motive for assassination. The NRA and the gun lobby provide the means. All you need is one deranged individual who takes this talk seriously and can buy a gun.

UPDATE: The Secret Service knows of Baldasaro's language and will conduct an "appropriate investigation." AZBlueMeanie offers a prediction:

I’m guessing the Secret Service will have to investigate damn near every delegate at the RNC Convention for saying the same thing after this week.
