As other writers have observed, Obamacare is likely “toast” given the Republican control of the whole government. But the Republicans are tying themselves in knots trying to agree on a new approach to dismantling health care for millions of citizens. The latest is to repeal the Afforable Care Act but to delay consequences of that action for a few years - past the 2018 election anyway. However, sooner or later the Republicans in congress will run up against the problem of how to get rid of ACA but yet leave popular features of the act in place.
The ‘Repeal and Delay’ Scam is the target of AZBlueMeanie’s post this morning. The Meanie lists in great detail how the interlocking parts of ACA cannot be pulled apart without destabilizing the insurance market - and the insurance companies know this very well.
In the end, the Republicans are like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, bringing pestilence and death to the sick and the poor. Meanie concludes:
… Steven Pearlstein wryly notes, Under Trump, red states are finally going to be able to turn themselves into poor, unhealthy paradises, as does Greg Sargent, Obamacare is probably toast. And a lot of poor, white Trump voters will get hurt by it.
If only we could limit the harm to those people who foolishly voted for the Tea-Publicans and their con game on ObamaCare. Unfortunately, their foolishness will affect us one and all.
“Censored” in commenting on Meanie’s post summarizes succinctly: “its like when the dog catches the car all he can do is bark! medicare for all solves the problem.”
