GOP electors said to take responsibility for impending destruction of our democracy

Said by whom? It’s fake news. I made it up.

The real story is that the GOP electors are hanging tough with Trump. In my opinion, they are the last potential firewall between the unfolding disaster of a President Trump and our democracy. You think that’s hyperbole? Just check out the recent posts on his cabinet picks.

The Daily Star has the AP report quoting some of the GOP electors.

Whether they like Trump or not, and some plainly don’t, scores of the Republicans chosen to cast votes in the state-capital meetings told AP they feel bound by history, duty, party loyalty or the law to rubber-stamp their state’s results and make him president. Appeals numbering in the tens of thousands — drowning inboxes, ringing cell phones, stuffing home and office mailboxes with actual handwritten letters — have not swayed them.

The interviews found widespread Democratic aggravation with the electoral process but little expectation that the rush of anti-Trump maneuvering can stop him. For that to happen, Republican-appointed electors would have to stage an unprecedented defection.

Still, people going to the typically ho-hum electoral gatherings have been drawn into the rough and tumble of campaign-season politics. Republicans are being beseeched to revolt in a torrent of lobbying, centered on the arguments that Clinton won the popular vote and that Trump is unsuited to the presidency. Most of it is falling on deaf ears, …

Here is a letter to the editor in this morning’s Star beseeching electors to do their constitutional duty.

Letter: To the Electors of the Electoral College

The founders of our nation established the Electoral College system intentionally to prevent a popular but unqualified candidate from gaining the presidency expecting the electors to use their discretion when casting their votes.

Donald Trump is unqualified to be President of the United States.

Aside from the non-stop outrageous comments and behavior of Trump during his candidacy, the appointments of various advisors clearly show Trump’s unhinged leanings. Americans do not support white supremacy or racism. We have much scientific proof that global warming is man-made and needs to be dealt with ASAP. We do not want conspiracy theorists given access to our inner governmental workings.

And what about Trump’s refusal to reveal his tax returns, and his failure to separate his financial holdings from the Office of the Presidency?

Electors: do your job.
