Hermann Göring in the White House

I’ve been reading The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson. It’s a story that begins with the rise of Winston Churchill as British PM 80 years ago - almost to the day. Britain was on the verge of an air war waged against it by the German air force.

The German Luftwaffe chief Hermann Göring was functionally 2nd in command and Adolph Hitler’s favorite. The description of this super crook caught my attention.

Göring was easily influenced by a “small clique of sycophants” … “His court favorites changed frequently since his favor could only be won and held by means of constant flattery, intrigue and expensive gifts …”

It’s spot on. Larson could be describing a narcissistic president now in the White House.
